Janelle Monae "Q.U.E.E.N." makeup

I can't say I'm the biggest fan of Monae's sound, call me a plebeian I don't mind, but the makeup and fashion choices in her latest video were fantastic. The thick liner, red orange-y lip, and bold lashes were fun and not the hardest thing to recreate.

And now for my take....

I can only go off the screen shots but I'd say I'm pretty close. I used a combination of shadows on the lid to get something satiny but not glittery and gel liner set with powder for a full lash line. Looking at it now I would say the liner could be thicker but my eyes are pretty big anyway so I was worried that to make the liner thicker across the top would make my eyes look like circles. Oh well - next time!

Products Used:
Eyes
~~UDPP
~~Hard Candy Glamoflauge Concealer
~~Stila naturaleyes palette, bare eyeshadow
~~Wet n Wild Comfort Zone palette, left eyelid eyeshadow
~~MAC Satin Taupe eyeshadow
~~NARS And God Created the Woman Palette, dark brown & black eyeshadow
~~L'Oreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner
~~Ruby Kisses HD Gel Liner in Rich Black
~~Milani Easybrow in Dark Brown
~~Mascara
~~elf Dramatic Lash Kit, black

For the face the goal was 'flawless' skin with plenty of contouring and a bright blush. All of the browns used on Monae's face (both in the crease of her eyes and under her cheekbone) looked cool toned to me so I pulled out my rarely used MAC Sculpt and Shape and I think it did a pretty good job giving me the effect I was after.

~~MAC Studio Finish Concealer
~~elf Sheer Mineral Booster
~~MAC Sculpt and Shape
~~Kiichigo Cream Blush

Lips

It's pretty gloomy here in DC but I hope all of you are having the best Monday possible!
