water ready
Monday, August 24, 2015 • ASOS, ban.do, Ebay, Forever21+, Kate Spade, Lou Lou, OOTD
I've decided that before my pool closed for the Season it might be helpful to talk a little bit about what I bring/wear when I'm looking for a little fun in the sun. Swap out the bathing suit to fit your mood and you're set for the beach, pool, and any outings afterwards!
1) A coverup with sleeves
I picked up this dress on ASOS after seeing it on Girl With Curves and I love it. I can wear it off the shoulder like I am here or pull both sides up if I want full coverage. Regardless, my arms are covered (a great thing when I've had too much sun) and the swing shape plus white color keeps me cool. I've paired it with denim shorts because chub rub is real folks, even when you're at the pool.
2) A sun hat (the bigger the brim the better!)
I bought this hat a couple years ago I think and it's done wonders for my pool game. Whether I'm sitting on the side or in the water it shields my face and helps me spend more time outside.
3) A tote bag/cooler
I tend to feel pretty blah after too long at the pool (I'm more of a beach girl I think) but I've used this bag to bring lots of water and snacks with me whenever I go. Since it's a cooler not only does everything last longer, the random other stuff I throw in there tend to stay dry.
4) & 5) Sunscreen and Water
No matter how much I/we might love the sun, the sun does not love us. Please be safe and wear sunscreen whenever you go outside, but especially when you're planning to get some concentrated rays at the pool or the beach. And don't forget to reapply! I never understand why I don't see the people around me doing so and I have to resist the urge to scold them. And since you're also sweating plenty (whether you feel it or not), keep water and other liquids on hand to rehydrate.
Dress: ASOS (also available in Tall) ~ Bikini: Figleaves (old, similar) ~ Hat: Lou Lou Boutiques (old, but some similar options: one, two, and three) ~ Shorts: Forever21+ (old, similar) ~ Sandals: Ebay ~ Bag: ban.do ~ Sunglasses: Kate Spade
Geek of the Week #28

// I think I wanna be Taco Belle.
//Epbot always does some incredible customizations but these Harry Potter chess pieces are like amazingly good.
//I realize the term "girl crush" is a bit controversial but if I'm allowed to have one then I'm going with Ashely Graham. Her feature in the Coveteur is beautiful and inspiring.
//This Hayao Miyazaki tribute really is jaw-dropping (I recommend watching it full screen. It's that good).
// "13 Tips on How To Speak While Female". My favorite?
//In "things on the internet I didn't know about", a Harley Quinn/Joker Frozen parody. The full song now has a short animated video to go with it and damn - people are so talented.
//I've watched a few geeky documentaries in my time but I love the look of this one: William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge. There was a series of clips on io9 and I think I'd love to get the inside scoop on all the Trek-y gossip.
Fun Posts & Random Finds: I think I'm finally read to try the BECCA Beach Tint. // Apparently Red Hot Red is supposed to be the modern interpretation of Marilyn Monroe's iconic lip color? // You might have noticed at this point that I have a red lipstick problem, and this is officially another one I want to try.

"Never apologize. Not even once. Not for yourself, and certainly not for America. Never let “Sorry” leave your lips. If you wish to play the boardgame of that name, point at it and growl."

KIKO Cosmetics Haul
Tuesday, August 11, 2015 • Makeup, WDDT?
Sometimes things happen that make me doubt how much my friends love me. I mean, how could nobody tell me that KIKO Cosmetics had opened up a free standing store in Pentagon City Mall?!
Booo people, boo.
Luckily a last minute outing a couple weeks ago gave me the opportunity to pass by and I did not resist. I in fact did the opposite of resist, and bought a bunch of stuff that I didn't need. I've decided that since everything but the blush was half off, and the blush was still 30% off, that I could have done much worse. Just let me lie to myself ok?
I'm still trying everything out, but I wanted to give you all a quick look at what I bought and my initial thoughts!
At first touch, I'm really impressed with everything I bought. The eyeshadow swatches are slightly more impressive on my fingers than on my arm, but that's without primer so I'm willing to withhold final judgement until I try them for real. The stick eyeshadows are ridiculous beautiful, as is the Colour Shock pot, even though for the latter I have no idea how I'm going to use it yet (I also wish my swatches showed off the micro glitter in the cream. It's so pretty!). The liquid eyeliner is great, with a brush tip and a formula that does not budge, even in DC's humid summer weather. The lipstick I've used a couple times and don't have a firm yay or nay opinion on yet, though I would say it's not particular moisturizing, despite the glossy finish.

(Clockwise, left to right)
1) Deco Delight Lipstick in 05 Mango Twist 2) Miami Click Stick Eyeliner in 03 Everglades Green 3) Sahara Glow Highlighter in 01 Desert Colours 4) Colour Shock Long Lasting Eyeshadow in 102 Revolutionary Burgundy 5) Soft Touch Blush in 107 Tomato 6) Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in 10 Emerald Green, 37 Burgundy, & 7 Golden Beige 7) Color Fever Eyeshadow Palette in 101 Coral Burgundy 8) Unforgettable Mascara
Highlighters are really hard to swatch - especially when they're imitating the Guerlain Meteorites. Trust me, an attempted swatch is there.

something different
Wednesday, August 5, 2015 • ASOS, Banana Republic, Kate Spade, OOTD, Shiraleah
I figured after a few weeks of flare-y goodness it might be time for a more modern silhouette. Let's just not discuss the hair situation ok? DC heat and humidity was having its way with me, and the results were not good.
