Fitting Room Review: Anthropologie #3
Friday, February 3, 2017 • Anthropologie, review, WDDT?, window shopping
I keep telling myself Spring is on the horizon, so during my latest trip through the new arrivals I picked a mix of items, at different weights, price points, and styles.
Vintage Modern Tee ($48, Size L), Paperbag Joggers ($128, Size L)
My Thoughts: I've had my eye on some non-traditionally skinny pants for a while, and these were the first winners. They fit true to size, a little loose in the waist, but to maintain the jogger fit I didn't size down. The shirt is fine - soft - but not worth $48 in my opinion.

Chino Jumpsuit ($138, Size 12)
My Thoughts: A friend asked me to try this on and while I had initially thought it fit pretty well (but wasn't for me), it is actually hilarious posted next to the model. I mean, I know I don't have a model body, but these barely look like the same item. So, yeah, I didn't get this, but maybe try it on to see if it's for you?

Lova Ribbed Sweater ($250, Size M), Pilcro Stet Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans ($138, Size 32)
My Thoughts: I really like this 100% cotton sweater, but $250?! No, just no. There is absolutely no reason to pay that kind of money for something that is not a completely timeless item. Which this isn't. And these jeans fit mostly true to a size, which means I had enough room to try on the 31 if I'd really been interested in buying them.

Fitting Room Review: Anthropologie
Wednesday, March 16, 2016 • Anthropologie, review, WDDT?, window shopping
So...I don't have a new outfit post this week. I was a generally lazy human being last weekend and I did things like sleep a lot, go to the movies, work out, bake - combined with the fact that my hair like crap, and no outfit pictures were even attempted.
Instead of leaving you hanging though, I thought it'd be interesting to see what I've tried on in Anthropologie lately. I rarely shop directly from the website, I feel like how it looks on the model is never how it translates on my curves. So, just in case you have the same problem, here are some really unflattering pictures of me in very bad lighting!
P.S. - I desperately tried to brighten and correct for the warm spotlight lighting in the dressing rooms, I feel to limited success. I'm sorry :-/.

Dress: Vanda Pencil Dress, $168, Size 14
My Thoughts: I have a crazy person in my brain who tells me that anything that is this fitted around my hips is going to make me look like like I'm pregnant. I thought this was a beautiful dress and I highly recommend it for a variety of work and fun/social activities. Just not for me - at least not right now.

Dress: Drawstring Midi Shirt Dress, $138, Size 12
My Thoughts: I actually bought this one weeks ago in an alternate colorway, just to have on hand for fun summer outings, but I fell in love with this olive color. So easy to dress up and down, and honestly I think the belt at the waist should be tied tighter so it's more flattering than the stock photo. Their interpretation of this dress is a little weird to me.

Dress: Crosswise Flare Dress, $158, Size 12
My Thoughts: I saw this on our "onesie" rails (the place where singular returns or pieces where we only have a few left live) and loved it. Unfortunately the return was a size 4 and there's no way I was squeezing that onto my body to tell if I liked the overall fit enough to order. Thankfully, someone very kindly returned a size 12 and I think it's great! The only fit issue I noticed was right around the shoulders - the bust fits higher on me because of my chest and so the straps are a little long right at the top. I'm going to have my seamstress friend and potentially a tailor take a look at the seams and price out the alteration. I'd like to keep it, because I think it's a super versatile Spring/Summer dress (with POCKETS!) but I don't want to buy a dress and then pay a lot for alterations so I just don't know.

fitting room randomness: Anthropologie & Banana Republic
Thursday, March 6, 2014 • Anthropologie, Banana Republic, window shopping
Bored over the weekend I wandered in to Anthropologie and Banana Republic to see if they'd gotten in any new Spring stuff. There were a few cute things at both places but here's a closer look at what I tried on:
Anthropologie
Linnea Blouse, $88, Size M
Love the stretchy textured fabric and the fun juxtaposition of the floral along the bottom. Perfect for Spring and even though I'm not 100% sold on the shape of the sleeves I still think it's really pretty.
Geojacquard Dress, $168, Size 14
Love the print, love the shape, don't love the absolute LACK of any stretch. This fit a bit small in my opinion and the boobs got a little pancake-y as a result (plus breathing was an issue, lol).
Vernalis Maxi Dress, $198, Size 14
I thought the pattern of this dress was beautiful on the hanger but pretty blah on me. Also the size 14 was a little big and tended to slide down, so if I really expected to wear this out in public I'd have to get a 12.
Banana Republic
Blue Dropped Waist Dress, $11.97 (final sale, in-store), Size 14
(not available online)
I have no idea what made me try on this dress other than the fact it was cheap as hell. I actually really love the color and drop waist (SHOCKER) and when I got home I tried it on under skirts and it looked great.
Striped Ponte V-Back Dress, $10.97 (final sale, in-store), Size14
Another dress that might typically be unexciting in life but is super useful for all sorts of work or other professional functions. I can also layer button downs or turtlenecks underneath for a different effect.
Striped Floral Fit And Flare Dress Riviera Blue, $140, Size 14
(not available online)
Um this dress is awesome guys. AWE. SOME. Unfortunately it also seems to be super sold out or not available online right now but if you can find it in store I highly recommend trying it on. The fabric is stiff enough to hold its shape (& kinda your shape at that) without being uncomfortable. I think it's going to be a great life/work dress for this Spring and Summer. If I can find it on sale...

Peter Pilotto x Target {dressing room review}
Monday, February 10, 2014 • Peter Pilotto x Target, window shopping
Despite Sunday's cold and forbidding afternoon forecast, I managed to get my butt out to a local Target to see the new Peter Pilotto collaboration. Sadly I don't think the one in Columbia Heights got the whole collection - I'd been looking for some particular pieces that weren't there in any size - but hey, I also wasn't there at the crack of dawn to make sure I had first dibs so I really can't complain.
If you're like me and in-between the "regular" and "plus size" worlds I hope these fitting room pics help a little. As I expected the sized items ran smaller/were closer to junior sizing but the S-M-L pieces were stretchier overall and I think could fit a variety of body types.

(Sorry the pics so blurry - stupid camera!)
A super comfortable long sleeved shirt. I loved the floral prints with the contrasting sleeves, but it's a very thin material so I'm not sure how well it'll layer. Purchased both colors.
Peter Pilotto for Target Tank (Size L), Purple Floral Print, $24.99
I'm not sure what was going on with the criss crossing fabric right under the bust but it was super, super awkward in person. It wasn't the right fit for me but the pattern/colors are great!
Peter Pilotto for Target Pencil Skirt (Size 14), Light Blue Floral/Check Print, $34.99
I really wanted to like this more but Target pencil skirts just don't fit on my body the way I'd prefer. I was hoping for something at least a couple inches longer but even though it did have a bit in the hem to let out I don't consider this enough of an investment piece to be worth the extra cost.
Peter Pilotto for Target Jacquard Dress (Size 16), Red Iris Print, $79.99
I so wanted to buy this dress. The colors are simply beautiful in person and the drop waist is surprisingly flattering. Unfortunately I just couldn't justify the price - the quality of the dress is not that great and the fabric plus faux boning with tulle underlay make it inappropriate for anything other than evening summer get-togethers, of which I don't go to too many.
On the whole I'd say this collection lives up to the initial look book - the colors and patterns are striking, especially when combined in the way they are here. If the fit is on your side then any of these pieces would make great statement additions to your wardrobe.
bottoms on the brain
Tuesday, October 22, 2013 • window shopping
As you can see, almost overwhelming I have one thing on the brain: cobalt. And yes, a couple of these skirts are complete fantasy (Oscar de la Renta? HAH!), but I like to remind myself of the overall shape and color of what I'm looking for to help my 'shopping with purpose' goal.
The mustard is just an extra ;).

Fitting Room Review: Anthropologie

Omg I stepped into a store! And tried on clothes! And took pictures! Shock and awe.
Ponte Bell Skirt, $128 (Sz M/L)
Checking online this skirt comes in a variety of colors but I don't think any of them would fix the fit problems. I understand it's meant to be high waisted, I like it that way in fact, but why is the waistband so long? For the skirt to actually poof nicely over my hips the top has to be all up under the boob area and it ends up looking very awkward.
Merida Pencil Skirt, $168 (Sz 12)
Cute but the size 12 was a bit too tight for my liking. I'd also never spend this much on a skirt so lets hope it sticks around long enough in a size 14 once it's on sale!
Marigold Swing Coat, $148 (Sz 12)
I actually was surprised by how much I liked this coat. I don't traditionally dig the swing coat fit but I liked the 3/4 length sleeve with the boxier shape. Would I buy it at this price? No, sorry, out of the budget, but it's another one to check back up on later!
