old and new

I'm still running hard and fast towards that moving day deadline (surprise! DC to DC but moving always sucks), even if the exact date is up in the air. Apparently my high levels of anxiety are manifesting themselves in the desire to get rid of ALL THE THINGS, which is interesting to say the least.
I actually enjoy purging my closet periodically, removing items and either donating or re-homing pieces, but at this point it's become that thing I do to feel better, even though there's not really anything else to get rid of. In an attempt to redirect my energy to the things I loved enough to keep, I picked up this super cheap ASOS top to pair with all sorts of "fancy" skirts. It's light weight and perfect for summer (and not see through!) and tones down this elaborate skirt. Wins all around!

Sometimes you see a dress online and you just know. And when you see it again it just further cements the knowledge that you have to have it.
Thankfully that second online shout out coincided with Nordstrom fully re-stocking this fabulous frock and you better believe I ordered it.
In two sizes (no shame).
At the moment this beautiful Eliza J dress is only available in a 12, but sizes do seem to be popping back periodically so I'd check again if it's speaking to you the way it spoke to me.

So in my quest to find vacation pieces that also work for life in general, I have to recommend this dress from Ann Taylor. I was actually in store to try-on this one (didn't work for me, too long and the waist didn't hit the right spot), but the fun print combined with hot weather friendly linen makes the Amalfi Halter Dress a winner. Plus the halter comes up high enough on the sides and along the back to allow for comfortably wearing a strapless bra :).
In less happy, more real-life-can-be-stupid news, go watch this video. And I hope you can join me in doing what we can to make the United States a safer, more inclusive, place.

Dress: Ann Taylor (runs a tad small, I'm wearing a size 14) ~ Belt: Forever21+ (maybe? It's super old) ~ Shoes: Esprit (via TJ Maxx, similar here) ~ Bracelet: Etsy ~ Purse: Anthropologie (old, similar here or here) ~ Earrings: Lou Lou Boutiques (old)
is it that time yet?

I have a couple thoughts about today's blog post -
1) Sorry for the fuzzy pictures. Editing myself out of this dappled sunlight hole has honestly been a huge pain in the ass. I finally just stopped after the 5th or 6th go around.
2) Thoughts on the flare jeans? I really like them but they're about an inch or so too long for me to wear with my preferred heels (since I'd be committing to wearing them all day). Has anyone else tried to get flared jeans hemmed? I'm worried I'll loose the long leg line if I do so... I'm conflicted.

Geek of the Week #35

// Yeah, I'm not getting over how weird this look/sounds any time soon
// Cool library posters!
// Generally speaking UpWorthy tends to really annoy me, but this video is totally worth watching (& squeeing over :D).
// I've made this twice in the past few weeks and it's really (really) good.
// You are NOT WRONG Buzzfeed.
// Cute animal posts are doing a lot for my mental health right now.
// I just don't understand how Nicole Warne is even a real person.
// Another interview that confirms my love for Constance Wu.
Fun Posts & Random Finds: LOVE this article on xoVain about blending. I feel like I do pretty well but I also like learning more! // I am unashamed to admit that I loved Deadpool, and this Honest Trailer is pretty neat too. // A Labyrinth board game! Cool! // There are pros and cons to cats, but apparently a con I hadn't thought of before is the sudden concern your house might be possessed. // Gilmore Girls!!! **happy flailing!**// I like fonts and I cannot lie. // Don't miss out on free Chick-fil-a!
Clothing & Jewelry: These heels serve no purpose in my life but I love them. // Just tried this dress on in Ann Taylor over the weekend and it was super cute (but runs a tad small). // The Ashley Graham Swimsuits for All collection has released, and to be honest, I'm just not sure I feel cool enough. // Lipstick blouse! // Super cute Anthro blouse! Love the retro look & feel.

"I’m one of those people who thinks there’s nothing more human than a book.
If the writer is really good, they get into a character’s life and their heart and their head
in a way that makes you, the reader, feel less alone with your own personal little
embarrassments or hopes or dreams or heartbreaks."
