no man's land

I think, *think*, it might be safe to say that DC is transitioning to Spring. You can never completely tell, but I get the feeling the next couple blog posts are going to be the end of straight hair for a while. Once my scalp starts sweating it's a no go, lol.
Also, is anyone else doing a wardrobe culling? I'm trying not to be too hard on the winter stuff that didn't get worn because the season just wasn't that cold this year, but looking forward to Spring/Summer I feel the need for less even if I'm not sure how that will exactly look. Take today's outfit. Before pulling it together I would have said it was time for this turtleneck to go. It's a super slim fit and kind of sheer, neither of which really appeal to me. But like this? It was the perfect non-black/white neutral, balanced both of the corduroy pieces, and really made the whole thing complete. I know I shouldn't keep a piece just because of one outfit, but did remind me of the efficacy of sometimes boring pieces, even if there are a couple things that aren't ideal.
I feel similar about undershirts - I know, objectively, I have too many t-shirts. BUT, now that I'm wearing thinner knits more often, these shirts function perfectly as a sweat barrier, and having more of them on hand means I'm not doing laundry as often. Which for a person who doesn't have a washer/dryer in unit, really speaks to me. It's a bit of a conflict in my closet right now, a desire for less while also making sure that the pieces I love are around longer to be worn when I want to. Combined with a deep hatred for laundry.

I know this is a bit of a departure from my usual, but I have to share a secret with y'all. I am having a moment with jeans, and it's not a particularly positive one. It's a very bad season to decide that jeans are too binding and yet... I'm trying to compensate by adding pants (I also don't want to wear skirts/dresses cause tights) but as I'm sure is shocking to no one, that's also difficult. I've got a couple pairs from Meeps and recently a couple from Uniqlo (to be seen later), but it continues to be a work in progress. Especially cause it's cold and I'm cold and even in the below outfit I kind of wish I'd included a scarf. Dammit.

I know that it's August and people are ready to start winding down on the whole "summer" thing, but DC DOES NOT STAND FOR THIS BLASPHEMY.
If there is a chance for it to be hot as hell and humid it will take it, and for moments like that I glad I splurged a bit over the winter on this LACAUSA (care of Anthropologie) dress. I did a little surgery and brought the neckline up a little, for obvious reasons, and I have to say I can see this is staying with me for years as a rooftop/vacation/hot-as-balls dress.
Plus, it looks perfect with flats.

If you ever wondered what it was like to be a blogger primarily without a photographer, please enjoy these SUPER BLOWN OUT PICTURES because I was wearing a white shirt and couldn't find an unobtrusive spot to save my life. Let alone any shade that wasn't too shady. I really do like this Power of My People top though, it took me a bit to decide how I felt about the fit in the shoulders, but I can't wait to keep trying it in all sorts of combinations.
Also, maybe just avert your eyes or something, so you're not blinded by the brightness. Sorry.

fall transitions
Tuesday, September 18, 2018 • Free People, LOFT, Lucky Brand, Missoma, Neiman Marcus Last Call, OOTD, Sam Edelman, World Market
This top is actually a combination of two firsts: a wrap that doesn't leave all my goodies hanging out, and a for-real crop top. Which I'm not going to say I'm completely comfortable wearing yet, but I'm trying to push some self-imposed style boundaries while the weather is transitioning, and this piece from Free People is doing a great deal of the heavy lifting in that department.
It runs to true to size (I ordered the medium too and while it technically went around my waist, the front no longer covered as much) and the linen mix is great for when it's warm but not that warm. Plus the ties at the wrist are unique to the rest of my closet, not to mention the color, so I'm happy to add it to my Fall rotation!
