pretending at normality
Wednesday, July 8, 2020 • Coach, Kate Spade, Missoma, NY&Co, NYandCo, OOTD, Soludos
So as has been established at this point, I live alone. Living alone during a global pandemic that necessitates you not being around people you don't live with has been... not fun. While the numbers across the US are rising rapidly because of a lack of any true leadership and a complete disinterest in actually managing anything from the current administration, there are a few rays of sunshine. First, I bought a car.
(Did I want to buy a car? Not really, but here we are.)
Getting the car (and a COVID test) has allowed me to create a little bubble of friends that I could see safely, which has done wonders for my sanity, and explore a little wider afield than I would usually. Here I'm sharing a few pics from Butler's Orchard, where large outdoor fields and timed tickets meant that people could go out fruit picking in their masks but not feel overwhelmed. And hey - new dress. Which, I just checked, is like 75% off and made with sustainably sourced cotton.

I feel like it's a rare moment these days for me to fall in love with a print - let alone fall in love with onw enough to acknowledge its place in my increasingly more neutral and solid wardrobe. But this N&Co dress got me, with its ridiculously bright Versace inspired print that made me think of both 90s AND 70s. I'm not going to say this dress is gonna be in my wardrobe for years and years, but I definitely have the feeling that I'm going to enjoy every outing in it while I can.

When you feel like you're in the midst of a Winter that will never end, one of the things the Internet tells you to try is seasonally appropriate outfits in brighter colors. Guess what? I might love this outfit but I'm STILL REALLY SICK OF THE COLD. I'm even getting bored of myself at this point, which is why I made my way down to the Tidal Basin where there aren't really any Cherry Blossoms but plenty of tourists to stare at the weirdo person taking pictures of herself.
And, as much as I love the overall look, I'm not sure OTK boots like this are for me. I'm not sure if it's because I went the affordable option (no regrets!) but these always end up as something I have to fidget with constantly, and that is not my life.

So, this trench (or coat, or whatever else you want to call it). I actually bought it from ASOS years ago, after stalking the Everlane Swing Trench - which is a beautiful piece and responsibly made, so if it's in your budget I recommend the original. BUT, originally what drove me to look for a replacement is that I just wasn't positive Everlane's version would fit me. I'm still not in fact (in less they want up to an XL), because a Large that covers sizes 8-10 is just not a large in my book.
I guess all that is to say never forget to take a little look around the internet if you love something - you might be able to find a version that's made just for you :).

In case you were wondering, today I decided to go with that "fashion rule" where if you wear the same color family in different textures then it doesn't have to match.
(That's the story anyway, and I'm sticking to it.)
*Fit Note: This sweater runs big so I recommend sizing down - I'm wearing a medium.

work on the weekends part 3
Wednesday, September 14, 2016 • Ann Taylor, BP, Ebay, etsy, Kate Spade, NYandCo, OOTD, Stuart Weitzman
Well hey there rooftop photos! Long time no see!
In the third installation of my "Work on the Weekends" series let's all take a moment and realize how terrible it's been in DC that I was dripping sweat after 20min at 9 IN THE MORNING. In that last picture you can definitely see that the heat was starting to get to me and I'm sorry that I couldn't be all stoic and mysterious.
But I digress, as the point of this post is to spend some time talking about a dress I absolutely love but have never featured on the blog before. I picked this black and white beauty up a couple of years ago from Ann Taylor and it is probably the most well fitting dress I own. The length is perfect, I love the way it hugs right at the smallest part of my waist under the bust, but still flows over my hips so I don't feel constricted.
Do you have any dresses that you just know you look great in? I tend to "save" this one more often than I should, I guess because I know I can't replace it >.<.
