dots and stripes for life
Wednesday, February 26, 2014 • Banana Republic, Lou Lou, Nine West, OOTD, The Limited
It might be snowing right now but this past weekend it hit 60 degrees and I took full advantage. I loved this outfit for the put together simplicity of it all plus how (once I changed into nude flats) perfectly it fit in my weekend adventures (Eastern Market & Old Town). I can't wait for this weather to come back around - and stay!

Despite my best attempts to figure out exactly which StyleUp email inspired me to wear this yesterday, it's just not happening. I will say that this the mystery other person had a slightly brownier khaki trench and I kind of wish I did too (but not enough to replace my well loved Jones New York one - the fit is perfect!).
My only other comment? I need leopard flats (preferably loafers), as soon as possible.

Friday, February 21, 2014 • ASOS, OOTD, Steve Madden, The Limited, What to Wear
I've decided that it's a personal victory that in this outfit one of my clients said I looked like I was going "quail hunting". Not a bad look I think ;).
Blazer: Thrifted (also worn here) ~ Turtleneck: ASOS ~ Jeans: The Limited ~ Boots: Steve Madden
I've also had my head in the sand a bit and didn't realize that this week's What to Wear theme is all about POPS of color - and this outfit does a pretty good job being that too! I'm usually all color all the time or strangely the completely lack there of, so I'm really proud of the universe for lining things up the way it has. Make sure to head over to Gypsy in Jasper to see the other looks from this month!
(But what am I going to do for 100% thrifted?!)

During the changing seasons it's always a little harder than normal to get a good outfit picture. If I don't find a "reason" to step away first thing in the morning I end up with photos like these - a little over saturated and shadowy for my liking.
While you can't quite see the full effect of the black button down under the dress, the color combination made the cobalt pop even more than usual and the hint of sparkle makes it fun (yet appropriate) for day to night transitioning.

Geek of the Week #20 - Happy Valentine's Day!
Friday, February 14, 2014 • Geek of the Week
Happy Valentine's Day Everyone! I don't tend to do much for the holiday, except hang out with my friends in dressier-than-normal outfits, but honestly I'd do that for my birthday too. So how can we separate today from all those other days you ask? With ridiculous internet finds of course!
1) All the Scouts.
2) The best shirt ever.
3) My nails are actually pink and glittery this year, but if I'd seen this design first I would have been hard pressed to choose between them...
4) I know, I know, all these dress are super girly, but can't you let a woman twirl? (I know you will.)
5) Thank goodness Kaelah Bee is kind enough to keep everyone updated via her "Things I Love Thursday" posts - how else would I know that I needed Period Panties?!
6) And something not at all related to the holiday (b/c period panties are? Ok self) but is relevant because it's so damn cold: Dr. Who Uggs!
I hope you are all enjoying a wonderful Friday because really, no matter what the occasion is, Friday's are just the best.

Peter Pilotto x Target {dressing room review}
Monday, February 10, 2014 • Peter Pilotto x Target, window shopping
Despite Sunday's cold and forbidding afternoon forecast, I managed to get my butt out to a local Target to see the new Peter Pilotto collaboration. Sadly I don't think the one in Columbia Heights got the whole collection - I'd been looking for some particular pieces that weren't there in any size - but hey, I also wasn't there at the crack of dawn to make sure I had first dibs so I really can't complain.
If you're like me and in-between the "regular" and "plus size" worlds I hope these fitting room pics help a little. As I expected the sized items ran smaller/were closer to junior sizing but the S-M-L pieces were stretchier overall and I think could fit a variety of body types.

(Sorry the pics so blurry - stupid camera!)
A super comfortable long sleeved shirt. I loved the floral prints with the contrasting sleeves, but it's a very thin material so I'm not sure how well it'll layer. Purchased both colors.
Peter Pilotto for Target Tank (Size L), Purple Floral Print, $24.99
I'm not sure what was going on with the criss crossing fabric right under the bust but it was super, super awkward in person. It wasn't the right fit for me but the pattern/colors are great!
Peter Pilotto for Target Pencil Skirt (Size 14), Light Blue Floral/Check Print, $34.99
I really wanted to like this more but Target pencil skirts just don't fit on my body the way I'd prefer. I was hoping for something at least a couple inches longer but even though it did have a bit in the hem to let out I don't consider this enough of an investment piece to be worth the extra cost.
Peter Pilotto for Target Jacquard Dress (Size 16), Red Iris Print, $79.99
I so wanted to buy this dress. The colors are simply beautiful in person and the drop waist is surprisingly flattering. Unfortunately I just couldn't justify the price - the quality of the dress is not that great and the fabric plus faux boning with tulle underlay make it inappropriate for anything other than evening summer get-togethers, of which I don't go to too many.
On the whole I'd say this collection lives up to the initial look book - the colors and patterns are striking, especially when combined in the way they are here. If the fit is on your side then any of these pieces would make great statement additions to your wardrobe.

Friday, February 7, 2014 • Eastern Market, J.Crew, Nine West, OOTD, The Limited
Still slightly in the vein of Wednesday's post, but if you're looking for another Valentine's Day option I think pink and mustard is also a good way to go. I wore this last Friday (when DC had a hint of higher temperatures) and with the heels I think it works well as a casual date night outfit.

What to Wear: on Valentine's Day
Wednesday, February 5, 2014 • Anthropologie, Marc New York, Nine West, OOTD, Target, The Limited, What to Wear
So I could have gone all red and pink for this outfit (I think Valentine's Day is the perfect excuse to go all out regardless of relationship status) but with all the gloomy weather lately I thought a little rainbow might be even more apropos.
I love this Anthropologie dress for it's all season wear-a-bility. Never be afraid of bright colors! They're not just for Spring/Summer and even though it was cold outside my tights, button down, and leather jacket (added to toughen things up just a touch) kept me toasty.
I can't wait to see what people come up with for this week's What to Wear - I have a feeling it's going to be great!

Monday, February 3, 2014 • Makeup, Makeup Monday
I've been going a little fuller with the eyebrows this season, and looking online to inspiration. And since I never use my pigments enough anyway, when I saw Madam Noire's duo-chromy look I decided it was the perfect time to do an easy weekend version with what I already own. I think I like it!

Sunday, February 2, 2014 • Modcloth
It's begun my friends: the spring invasion of cute stuff in my sorority colors. Obviously I can't actually buy all these things, I mean the budget doesn't stretch to $100+ shoes I can't even walk to work in, but a girl can dream right?
