The Frankie Shop
no man's land

I think, *think*, it might be safe to say that DC is transitioning to Spring. You can never completely tell, but I get the feeling the next couple blog posts are going to be the end of straight hair for a while. Once my scalp starts sweating it's a no go, lol.
Also, is anyone else doing a wardrobe culling? I'm trying not to be too hard on the winter stuff that didn't get worn because the season just wasn't that cold this year, but looking forward to Spring/Summer I feel the need for less even if I'm not sure how that will exactly look. Take today's outfit. Before pulling it together I would have said it was time for this turtleneck to go. It's a super slim fit and kind of sheer, neither of which really appeal to me. But like this? It was the perfect non-black/white neutral, balanced both of the corduroy pieces, and really made the whole thing complete. I know I shouldn't keep a piece just because of one outfit, but did remind me of the efficacy of sometimes boring pieces, even if there are a couple things that aren't ideal.
I feel similar about undershirts - I know, objectively, I have too many t-shirts. BUT, now that I'm wearing thinner knits more often, these shirts function perfectly as a sweat barrier, and having more of them on hand means I'm not doing laundry as often. Which for a person who doesn't have a washer/dryer in unit, really speaks to me. It's a bit of a conflict in my closet right now, a desire for less while also making sure that the pieces I love are around longer to be worn when I want to. Combined with a deep hatred for laundry.

I know this is a bit of a departure from my usual, but I have to share a secret with y'all. I am having a moment with jeans, and it's not a particularly positive one. It's a very bad season to decide that jeans are too binding and yet... I'm trying to compensate by adding pants (I also don't want to wear skirts/dresses cause tights) but as I'm sure is shocking to no one, that's also difficult. I've got a couple pairs from Meeps and recently a couple from Uniqlo (to be seen later), but it continues to be a work in progress. Especially cause it's cold and I'm cold and even in the below outfit I kind of wish I'd included a scarf. Dammit.

spring feelings
Wednesday, April 24, 2019 • J.Crew, LOFT, Missoma, Neiman Marcus Last Call, OOTD, The Frankie Shop, Via Spiga
I am unequivocally living for these cool Spring mornings.Yeah it's inching into the 80's by the afternoon but sunshine, open windows, and sunsets closer to 8pm - it's all worth it.
My itchy eyes and pressure filled sinuses might disagree but WE'LL JUST IGNORE THAT.

I realize it's a little ridiculous to have more than one puffer jacket, but I feel like now, with the three I have, I'm done buying them (face palm). I have one "sport" puffer (Eddie Bauer) and two "fashion" puffers (H&M and Oysho) and that seems to be what I reach for. Today is a bit of a chill outfit, but looking out at the ice and snow I know that just by switching out the boots for a waterproof variety, I'd be ready for pretty much anything.

Paris Haul Part II: Clothing
Monday, February 11, 2019 • American Vintage, C & A, Clothing, Cyrillus, Galeries Lafayette, review, The Frankie Shop
It became quite clear to me, while I was trying to take not-shitty clothing haul pictures, that not only do I need some sort of light reflector, I think a better background might be in order too. I'm just not currently set up for that sort of thing, so I apologize if these aren't up to my usual standards. What I *am* happy to say is that I found many more of the items on line than I had initially thought I would, so while my flatlays could use some work, if you click through to the website you'll get a much better idea.
I had actually gone to Paris with an idea of I wanted to buy, and I tried on a selection of blazers when I saw a good pattern, and combed through a few racks of scarves. But in the end I found success in neither of those areas, instead buying pieces that were comfortable. Stylish (for the most part), but comfortable (the loungewear set may never be seen outside my home though). I also 100% went over budget, so.. shrug. Not proud of it, but it is what it is, and I'm excited about all the ways in which these new pieces will shine in my wardrobe (through multiple seasons).
Oh, and one last thing. You'll notice that quite a few of the items I bought were either O/S (one size) or XS/S, and my body is most assuredly not either of those sizes. Shopping off and on at brands like The Frankie Shop has taught me more about how useless brand size delineations are than ever before. While it makes it almost impossible to shop online, I'm kind of at the place where I'll hold up a garment and make a judgement call from that, rather than strictly adhering to a size. I'm still riding that inbetweenie line, but the current style to make so many pieces SUPER oversized has definitely benefited me.

simple updates
Tuesday, November 27, 2018 • Blank NYC, Converse, Eddie Bauer, Kate Spade, Lucky Brand, OOTD, The Frankie Shop
It's funny how at this point I almost fee like writing a "fit post" for The Frankie Shop. Every time I'm in NY I like to swing by and try on some of their wares, because despite the "one size" label that so many of their pieces have, they can end up fitting pretty perfectly. This green corduroy shirt fulfills a few different wants I had, in a way that's much more versatile than a blazer (which is the other corduroy piece I was toying around with buying).
I'm still working on creating a wardrobe I'm 100% happy with, but I feel like maybe I'm coming around more and more to The Anna Edit's version of a capsule - not a particular number, but a determination to only have pieces that I love, and moving out-of-season items to a different spot in my closet (and not because I don't have space, but because it's distracting to have them cluttering things up).
