I am definitely not wearing this dress enough this summer but I think a couple things are holding me back: 1) the fabric of this dress doesn't seem 'washer friendly' 2) it's so dang distinctive!

I can't get away with wearing it every week but at least I can say that this time around a different accent color took the stage :).

Every once in a while there comes a dress that one breaks personal rules for. Where the addition of a safety pin is enough to get me out in the world in something that makes me ridiculously happy for no reason.

This is one of those dresses :).

I'm trying to wear these shoes more often while the weather's warm but I'm having a surprisingly tough time pairing pieces with what is essentially a neutral! #gofigure

Birchbox + Ann Taylor: Washington, DC

Thank goodness for friends because without a heads up from a follow DC-ite I would never have known about this fun Birchbox + Ann Taylor event.

It was a little (hah!) crowded for serious shopping but I loved taking a look around Ann Taylor and seeing all the luxe fabrics and beautiful colors that they're bringing in for Fall/Winter. I'll definitely be back when I have some time to try things on!

Waiting in line

Loved the outfit on this mannequin

Champagne in line & my friend Jessica showing off one of her own Ann Taylor staples!

Burgundy is clearly sticking around as a major color this Fall

I love it to pieces so first off I have to say yay for keeping it! Secondly though I have to violently shake my fist at my stupid camera for running out of battery the minute I needed it! Ugh!

Please accept these slightly blurry phone pictures of a dress that I can't wait to rework into new outfits for the rest of the Summer and all of Fall.

Dress: Anthropologie ~ Bag: Kate Spade ~ Shoes: Nine West (thrifted)

EDIT: All is not lost! Before my camera gave up the ghost I got one - ONE - photo in actual daylight. Par-TAY!

I know you're probably all sick of this blouse at this point but I just. Can't. Stop. If it wasn't so distinctive I'd probably go back to stalking H&M for the black version.

playing with shapes

A friend of mine (Hi Maralis!) recently introduced me to the makeup artist Beat Face Honey and even if her looks aren't ones I'd wear everyday I love her use of color, technique, and ability to explain the sometimes unclear application steps. This was my attempt to recreate a look she did on Brandy and while I love the way the shape works on her I think on my rounder eyes it's a little odd. Plus even though I knew the oranges I had on hand weren't as vibrant as I would like I was lazy and didn't use a colored primer and I'm sure the overall look suffered for it. Sigh. Still it was something different and I need that in my life!

I do not see myself letting go of the below knee length skirt anytime soon. It's just so damn comfortable, and with the a-line shape flattering and easy to wear.

Top: Target ~ Skirt: Eshakti (Sz L) ~ Shoes: BP ~ Broach: Etsy

This particular one I bought at Eshakti (Tipped Trim High Waist Skirt) with a $40 off promo code and even though it took longer than I would have liked to ship it's still a purchase I'm really happy about. It's not lined, but the button details on the high waist are darling and the side zipper has a hook and eye closure (a nit-picky thing I've just recently discovered I appreciate). I'm happy with the slightly Ms. Frizzle air I went with here, pairing it with my seahorse shirt from Target, but I think anyone could get a lot of use out of a green and navy blue skirt.

I've realized over the past couple weeks that my posts seem to go COLOR ARGH!! to black and white all the time. I'm not sure what that says about me and my outfit choices.
