Buy & Try: ASOS Skater Dress

Friday, December 28, 2012

Yeah, as much as I wanted a fun red Christmas dress this was never going to be it. I debated whether to blog about it all but I figured that maybe some of the shorter torso gals out there might benefit from a review.

On me, this is a pregnant dress. The waist line is at least one inch too high, possibly two, and the pleats end up sitting in all the wrong places. Excuse the 'fresh out of the package' look to the skirt, I think given time to breathe (or a good steam) it could end up looking like the product picture.

The deep red is pretty, and the sateen doesn't feel cheap though like a lot of ASOS items for me lately I had to size down. The US 14 was roomy in all the wrong ways - the 12 maybe felt a little tight right across the fullest part of my chest but it was nothing to truly complain about it.  All in all I think it's a fine dress - especially if you find a coupon like I did - but not for me. The full skirt could have been so great but sadly fell very short.

Sidenote, I wonder just how weird the people in my work gym think I am? I tried to pick an empty time of day but....

For the ASOS Skater Dress In Cotton Sateen With Square Neck- would you recommend that for a college graduation dress?? I just bought this dress and if it fits appropriately I am thinking about wearing it.

I probably lean a little more towards 'Sunday Best' for graduation personally, but I think this could work. Try keeping the accessories light and the heels not too high to create an outfit that's formal but not evening. Hope the dress fits!

Hi, I personally think the dress looks lovely on you! I have had my eye on this dress for a while but sadly it's no longer for sale. One has just come up on ebay but in 2 sizes bigger than my size but thought I might be able to alter it, (probably a bad idea). But as you said you had to size down, do you mean the dress you bought was a large 14 so you had to go down to a 12. Just wondering if 2 sizes larger than my size may end up being more like 3 sizes too large.

@Serena - I originally bought two sizes in the dress, the 14 and the 12. The one I'm wearing here is a 12 which at the time was a size down from what I would normally go for. If the one you're looking at on Ebay is technically two sizes larger than your normal then yes, I'm worried that it would indeed end up fitting like it was 3 sizes larger.

Ah ok, I'd better leave it then. It sounds like it'd be more than a nip and tuck here and there. Thanks very much for the advice! :)
