So it's going to be 90 degrees in DC all week, but for a bright, shining moment in June it felt like Spring and I finally got the opportunity to take pics of this amazing jumpsuit that I freakishly found at - stay with me now - Abercrombie & Fitch. I'm not sure what happened to the completely size exclusive, stereotypical upper middle class Caucasian people only store of my youth, but it's had a few pieces that have found homes in my closet and every time it shocks me. Especially the part where almost across the board I am a size XL/32 which doesn't even happen at brands actually aimed at the 30+ crowd.

Made of 100% Lyocell, it's super comfortable to wear for pretty much all occasions (I also need to try rolling up the hem like the model). Most importantly for me though is that the legs are on the slim side, which after some experimentation, I actually think is more flattering. It seems to be totally sold out online at the moment (boooo) but if you manage to find it in a store I highly recommend you give it a try! I'm almost sad I didn't buy it in more colors but it felt a little excessive for someone who's trying to calm it down on the spending front.

And oooh, I can't wait to to wear this layered with crew and turtlenecks once it cools down again!

So I got this shirt. Do I love it? I don't know. Do I hate it? Definitely not. But I think I'll know much more as the linen wears in because here it was pretty much right out of the package and it shows. I'll keep you updated.

It's funny how at this point I almost fee like writing a "fit post" for The Frankie Shop. Every time I'm in NY I like to swing by and try on some of their wares, because despite the "one size" label that so many of their pieces have, they can end up fitting pretty perfectly. This green corduroy shirt fulfills a few different wants I had, in a way that's much more versatile than a blazer (which is the other corduroy piece I was toying around with buying).

I'm still working on creating a wardrobe I'm 100% happy with, but I feel like maybe I'm coming around more and more to The Anna Edit's version of a capsule - not a particular number, but a determination to only have pieces that I love, and moving out-of-season items to a different spot in my closet (and not because I don't have space, but because it's distracting to have them cluttering things up).

Let me tell you about when you shouldn't wear a 100% polyester dress. You should not wear a 100% polyester dress during a holiday weekend that causes a major road to close so that instead of taking an Uber all the way to your destination, you're forced to walk.

I don't really know what's wrong with me that I would think taking pictures NEXT TO THE WATER on a windy as hell day would be a good idea. Since it's done now, I hope you'll just excuse me and the overly hand-centric photos that I had to take to keep my hair out of my face/lipstick.

I've been keeping an eye out for plaid double-breasted blazers from pretty much the moment they exploded all over the internet, but I never really seriously considered thrifting one because fit is such a huge component of the overall look. Then - duh - it occurred to me that using a thrifted blazer I already owned and loved might be a good way to tackle the problem. I found this Pendleton piece on Poshmark for $12, and it was worth every penny :D.

I'm not going to lie to you and say this outfit was TOTALLY appropriate for the weather. Maybe if I was a scarf person it'd have been a bit less chilly in the shade, but since I was comfortable walking around in the sun I just couldn't bring myself to care.

This outfit was actually inspired by a Pinterest flat lay, and it was unexpectedly just the kick in the pants I needed to think about seasonal transitioning. Instead of embracing the cold mornings and warm afternoons that DC springs actually are, I've been jumping ahead to SUMMER  and all the dresses you can imagine. Spring has its own charms that I need to remember to check into, before I reach the point of sweating every second I spend outside.

This turned out to be one of those posts I had to step away from a bit. I love this jacket, but after looking back at the way I'd styled it previously I almost felt like I wasn't doing it justice in this outfit. It's hard to explain, but I think I'm actually going to have to put in extra work to make this piece feel casual enough to be thrown over outfits when I'm running out the door.

So this jacket is still here, but let's see if I can pull it out more often, ok? I'll let you know how it goes.

So I'm not even going to pretend this isn't a bit of a cop-out outfit. I lazed about this past Saturday and pretended I had any idea what I was bringing to DragonCon, and it resulted in the easiest outfit known to man/woman: bodysuit and shorts. Everything else is left up to your own discretion, lol, but I do recommend a crossbody bag and dirty hair for that true "lived in" look.

And totally not related, but how cute is this teeny door?! I was wandering alley ways with my tripod (as you do) and randomly happened upon it. So while it probably doesn't do much for the overall photo, seeing it here makes me smile.

This is one of the few pieces where I find myself torn about whether to blog about it or not. It's a cute top that fits flatteringly true to size, and should (should) be good for summer temps. But two words are keeping me from true joy:

Boob. Sweat.

Specifically of the under boob variety, this unlined top shows sweat freaking immediately and it is no bueno in my book. I still ended up wearing it to a BBQ because I'm trying to even out some color I got before (while wearing SPF, don't come for me about my love of Vitamin D) but I was vaguely uncomfortable the whole time.

So buyer beware on this one, but it's so damn cute it annoys me to have to say that.

I have to admit that I find it a little funny that my new solution to any skinny jeans I feel "meh" about is to cut off the hem and see if that helps, lol.

Also, it waaaay past time for me to dye this hair again. And cut it!

As part of my quest to find the new "me" (haha, lies, just a new closet) I was determined to try some different fits of denim. I'm a mid-rise skinny girl 90% of the time, and in most cases that's because everything else makes me feel like all you see is VBL. And while I'm a big proponent of to-each-their-own, that was not the look I was going for.

And then walked in these super high rise from Lucky. I like to wander through their stories because I actually fit most of their denim pretty well, but these surprised even me. I felt both vintage and classic, which is exactly what I wanted - plus after cutting off the bottoms I got the raw hem in their too.

All in all this was a super simple look that I felt fantastic in. Winner!


Fit Note: Part of the reason these jeans works so well is the low stretch. I'm wearing a size 14/32, and actually cut a few inches off the bottom to get the look I wanted. I also cut out some denim reinforcement they had on the inside of the knees, behind the distressing.

Fall has descended upon DC (yay!) and the wind on Saturday was not playing around. Trying to find a spot to take photos that was 1) secluded, and 2) out of the wind, proved to be impossible. In the end I just leaned into it and tried my best to keep my hair under control, lol.

Also, looking at these photos has left me with a question: are people actually belting overalls? Like for real? Because I can't imagine the awful things it would do to my proportions to even try.

Have I spent any time here talking about the specifics of fit? Or at least how some of those fit decisions can be incredibly personal?

More often than not, I choose pieces that place me squarely in the traditionally flattering category. I know what I like to emphasize and what I don't, and I don't often stray from that. In my attempts to figure out this season though, I seem to be drawn more and more to those pieces that feel a little "wrong".  This dress from Lou & Grey/LOFT is a lovely weight, and feels much more expensive than it is. Add in sleeves and a skirt that stops just above the knee and I figure I've found a piece I can dress up or down, with sneakers or booties, for years to come. But it doesn't emphasize my waist. It fits in the shoulders and bust and then just kind of flows down the rest of the body. 

It's one of those pieces I bought because I feel great in it, even if it doesn't fit like so many of the pieces where I usually say those words. So...yeah. Sometimes you have to just buy the pieces that make you happy, even if they're not the ones you feel "fit the best".

Spring, she is a fickle mistress. Instead of bright sun, colorful flowers, and fun outfits, last weekend DC got cold and rain and blah.

Now thankfully that cold didn't end up including the snow that was originally predicted, but damn. Coming out of the theaters after yet another Studio Ghibli movie, I actually wasn't sure I'd dressed warmly enough.
