What to Wear
accessorized
Wednesday, April 2, 2014 • ASOS, Gap Outlet, Joseph A., OOTD, teen flo, The Limited, What to Wear
Now I'm not exactly sure what this week's What to Wear theme was supposed to mean, but I took the word "accessorized" and decided to showcase an outfit that's simple but more complete due to the little touches I chose to finish it with.
The watch, the rings, the scarf and bag - all together they've created a(n incredibly) preppy and sophisticated look that's great for work but transitions to night and weekend activities quite easily. The turtleneck + shirt + blazer combo is warm enough on its own, especially in early Spring, and if the temperature drops on you too suddenly, just throw a coat on top!

still green and mustard
Wednesday, March 19, 2014 • American Eagle, Anthropologie, Bandolino, J.Crew, Levi's, OOTD, What to Wear
When I saw that this week's "What to Wear" theme was everyone's favorite cardigan I knew that there was really only one piece I could pick. I have plenty of cardigans, I'm a layering girl at heart you see, and those things are my bread and butter. But it's my latest sweater acquisition, the mustard cardigan from Anthrolopologie, that's wormed itself to the top of the pile.
I love the mustard color, it's proven to be incredibly versatile for a variety of work and life pairings, and here's just one casual way to wear it. Though looking back at these pictures I see I've somehow managed to still be wearing green and mustard...
Eh, whatever. Life's short and sometimes tried and true are what you go with :). Don't forget to check out Gypsy in Jasper tomorrow for the other awesome looks!

95% Thrifted
Wednesday, March 5, 2014 • HandM, Jones New York, Nine West, What to Wear
So for Nicole's latest What to Wear post the goal was 100% thrifted. Now I really wanted to go for this, but after taking a close look at my wardrobe I realized that I was missing kind of an important piece to make that happen: a thrifted top.
In my opinion, for my body and style, DC is just not a great thrifting city. It's hard to find options that aren't overpriced or too small or just wrong enough for me style wise to be impractical purchasing. I've managed to happen upon a few gems over the years though, so I thought that even if I couldn't make an outfit I could at least showcase the ones that have appeared on the blog!
Definitely don't miss out on the links post tomorrow - I'm sure those ladies are going to have some great (& 100% thrifted) outfits to share!

off hunting
Friday, February 21, 2014 • ASOS, OOTD, Steve Madden, The Limited, What to Wear
I've decided that it's a personal victory that in this outfit one of my clients said I looked like I was going "quail hunting". Not a bad look I think ;).

I've also had my head in the sand a bit and didn't realize that this week's What to Wear theme is all about POPS of color - and this outfit does a pretty good job being that too! I'm usually all color all the time or strangely the completely lack there of, so I'm really proud of the universe for lining things up the way it has. Make sure to head over to Gypsy in Jasper to see the other looks from this month!
(But what am I going to do for 100% thrifted?!)
What to Wear: on Valentine's Day
Wednesday, February 5, 2014 • Anthropologie, Marc New York, Nine West, OOTD, Target, The Limited, What to Wear
So I could have gone all red and pink for this outfit (I think Valentine's Day is the perfect excuse to go all out regardless of relationship status) but with all the gloomy weather lately I thought a little rainbow might be even more apropos.
I love this Anthropologie dress for it's all season wear-a-bility. Never be afraid of bright colors! They're not just for Spring/Summer and even though it was cold outside my tights, button down, and leather jacket (added to toughen things up just a touch) kept me toasty.
I can't wait to see what people come up with for this week's What to Wear - I have a feeling it's going to be great!

What to Wear: for a cozy night in
Wednesday, January 22, 2014 • Ann Taylor Factory, Anthropologie, Forever21+, Muk Luks, OOTD, What to Wear
I actually wasn't sure if I was going to be able to participate in this week's What to Wear post, but thanks to an unexpected half day (thanks snow!) I took advantage of the sun and snapped these pics :).
It's not really "exciting" as far as outfit posts go, but it's definitely honest. When it's cold outside the first thing I want when I get home is snuggly comfort and even though these aren't pieces I wear out, they're great for home (& bed, lol).
Don't forget to head over to Gypsy in Jasper tomorrow to see everyone else who participated!

What to Wear: for Christmas Dinner
Thursday, December 26, 2013 • ASOS, Gap, J.Crew, Nine West, OOTD, Shiraleah, What to Wear
I might be a few link ups behind on Nicole's "What to Wear" series, but Christmas dinner is definitely one I can do. Or maybe we'll call it Christmas snacks because I'm not sure I'd eat a whole dinner in highwaisted pants, lol.
Regardless, these pieces bring together all the colors of Christmas in a relaxed casual getup that even in four inch heels I'm pretty sure I could walk around town in. Check out the rest of the great dinner outfits here once the link page is up and running!

What to Wear: Mixing Patterns
Monday, November 18, 2013 • Banana Republic, Michael Kors, Nine West, OOTD, What to Wear
Sorry for completely forgetting about last week's What to Wear post! I didn't mean to space out but since Nicole already posted her link up I thought that perhaps late would be better than never.
Pattern mixing is probably one of my favorite things to do (see here, here, or here) and while I tend to go for the obvious pairings today I thought I'd showcase a more subtle mix.
The Tommy Hilfiger book dress goes surprisingly well with this Banana Republic skirt and the overall effect is dressy but still casual (especially if you pair it with flats the way I do on my commute). Hope this helps those of you trying out new combinations of old wardrobe staples!

What to Wear: for Halloween!
Thursday, October 31, 2013 • Dragon*Con, What to Wear
Debuted at DragonCon 2013, I wore this with sneakers at the convention because honestly I would have killed myself otherwise. I managed to fumble around in the parking garage behind my apartment but make no mistake: I am not a professional skater and these pictures make me look much better than I am.
I love this costume because not only is it a take on a woman and character I admire but it incorporates another badass sport I'll never be able to do, roller derby. Throw in the fact that it's also a geeky homage and I think we can all agree that despite the cold risk it's a costume worth the commitment.
Don't forget to check the link up on Gyspy in Jasper for other great looks (& perhaps future Halloween inspiration?)!
What to Wear: to the movies
Wednesday, October 16, 2013 • ASOS, Georgetown Leather Design, J.Crew, Michael Kors, Old Navy, OOTD, The Limited, What to Wear
For me going to the movies is all about layers. Summer or Fall the temperature inside a theater often hovers right around arctic so this blazer and gingham button down are perfect. Plus if for some reason I do get hot then I can take a layer off and still be ok. Add in comfy burgundy jeans, oxfords, and a sizeable crossbody and I've even got a way to sneak in candy!
Check back tomorrow for Gypsy in Jasper's link to all the 'What to Wear' posts!

What to Wear: polka dots
Wednesday, October 2, 2013 • eShakti, Gap, Old Navy, OOTD, Tahari, What to Wear
Polka dots! It's a pattern I love which is all over my closet so it was actually kind of hard to pick just one piece for Gypsy in Jasper's 'What to Wear' theme. Still I think this outfit is pretty nicely 'me' what with the skirt and bright colors. Gypsy's link up post should go live tomorrow (Thurs) so check back here to find out what the other participants wore!
Edit: And here's the post! Enjoy all the polka dotty goodness :).
I've also just done some backtracking and I think this lovely logo is care of Little Lady Little City - so cute!
